Laser-guided S-25L rocket in 1:72 (Temp Models)

A resin heavy aircraft rocket in the laser-guided version, in 1:72 scale, from the Russian brand Temp Models. The resin print manages the long body and the deployed tail fins in one piece. It is not an aircraft model but a separate store to be hung under the wing of a finished model.

The real subject

The S-25 series ranks among the heaviest aircraft rockets of all and is carried singly in a launch tube under the wing. While the baseline versions marked with the letter O are unguided, the version with the letter L has a block with a semi-active laser seeker head and steering added at the front, so it homes on a reflected beam. That turns an unguided weapon into a precision one, which shows on a model in the longer and differently shaped front end.

Building and painting tips

Release the long rocket body from the supports on a flat work mat so that it does not bow. Sand the marks down with fine paper and wet sand, with respiratory protection. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting. The window of the seeker head at the nose is done in a clear coat or a dark gloss. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
