About product

Lifecolor Lime Fixer

The impression a shade makes on a model never arises on its own — the eye always judges it against whatever lies right beside it. Lime Fixer is a product of the Italian brand Lifecolor from the Fixer range, that is, a preparation meant to fix an effect that has been created, and its light yellow-green tone therefore does not work in isolation on a finished model. It reads against the color of the base, against the neighboring surfaces and against the background of the display case, and depending on that it can look one time like an unobtrusive tinting of the surface and another time like a strong accent.

Why the same tone behaves differently in scale

On a real machine such tinting is spread over an area of several meters and the eye takes it in as a faint hint. On a model in 1:72 the same area shrinks to a couple of centimeters and an equally strong application starts to look like a distinct patch that overrides the shape of the part. The guide is simple: the smaller the scale, the more finely you dose the tone, and the more often you should step back and look at the model from a meter away. In larger scales the eye has enough area to make out the transitions, and the same tone there will take a noticeably stronger application without the result looking coarse.

How to work with it

  • A light yellow-green tone for fixing and evening out an effect that has been created.
  • In small scales apply it in weak layers and keep checking from a distance.
  • Judge the tone on the model itself, beside the neighboring surfaces, not from a sample held in the hand.
  • In 1:32 and larger you can allow yourself a stronger and more varied application.

Who it is for

For modelers of vehicles, aircraft and dioramas who want the final tone of the surface under control and do not want to leave it to chance. It suits anywhere the surface should look alive without drowning out the shape of the subject itself.

Keep out of the reach of children. When spraying, work in a well-ventilated space.

FAQ

Because an equally strong application is projected onto a much smaller area. What is a faint hint across several meters on a real machine is a patch a few millimeters long on a model in 1:72. The eye reads it as a separate element, not as a tinting of the surface.

Step back from the model to the distance it will be viewed from in a display case, roughly a meter. If from that distance you see the individual applications as separate patches, the coat is stronger than the scale will bear.

No. A larger scale offers more area on which the eye can make out the transitions, so there you can work more strongly and with more variation. In small scales you need to proceed in weaker layers.

Always on the model itself and next to the surfaces that adjoin it. A sample judged on its own looks different from the same tone surrounded by other colors.
