Kamen Rider is a long-running popular Japanese live-action series about masked heroes, and Skull is one of its characters. A contrasting costume with a striking mask is typical of the model, exactly the kind of subject where the difference between glossy and matte surfaces decides whether the figure comes across as a costume or as a piece of plastic.
The basic build is quick and requires nothing but nippers and a knife to level the gates. The most effective finishing on character models is precisely the work with sheen: unify the leather and cloth parts with a matte varnish, while leaving the mask, the decorative features and the accessories glossy, or going over them with a gloss varnish. The difference is immediately visible and needs no airbrush. Pick out the engraving and the divisions of the costume with a thin dark line, but work over short stretches at a time and wipe the excess off straight away. Apply any decals to a glossy base and only then varnish the whole thing.
The model is assembled by snapping pre-colored parts together. Glue and paints are not needed for the build, and varnishing is optional.
