A thick white board of foamed PVC, five millimeters thick, three pieces in a package. A load-bearing material for terrain, plinths and the shells of structures.
Responsibility details are not available.
The thick variant of the foamed board differs from the thin sheets in one fundamental property: it needs no framework. By itself it is stiff enough for a plinth under a diorama, the surface of a road, a terrain step or the shell of a house that will not warp even after a heavier textured layer is glued on. The package holds three pieces measuring twenty by thirty centimeters in white.
A five-millimeter thickness allows work on the edge as well. A groove can be milled into the side, a joint cut out or a chamfer sanded, so that the joints of two walls hold on their own and do not have to be propped with triangular stiffeners. Cutting goes with a knife in several strokes, but on longer cuts a snap-off blade with a firm guide is more comfortable. By layering several pieces on one another, rises in terrain, stairways or embankments are built quickly.
The outer face is smooth and closed, while inside the material is porous. That means that paint takes well straight onto the face, whereas a cut edge soaks up more and is best filled or sanded before spraying. For joining larger areas, white wood glue proves itself, and for quick spots, super glue with an accelerator.
At the same stiffness the material is markedly lighter than plaster or plywood, so a finished diorama is easy to carry and needs no robust frame. The offcuts serve as spacer wedges when leveling a surface, or as a core under a modeling compound.
