The selection consists of Primary Red, Vermilion, Magenta, Naples Red, Oxide Red and Reddish Black. It is the whole road from a cool magenta through a fiery vermilion to a dark tone that is closer to brown than to red. It is precisely that last position which is the most useful in modeling, because a real red surface in daylight never looks like the paint straight out of the bottle.
National insignia, numbers on a fuselage, sporting finishes, firefighting equipment, roofs and brick walls on a diorama, the wing covering of machines from the First World War. Oxide red also has a special standing, because it corresponds to the shade of the anti-corrosion primer coat carried by unfinished bodies and by chipped areas under the top finish.
Red pigments are among the worst covering of all. The base decides: on a white or light gray surface the color leaps out, on a dark one it sinks into brown. A proven procedure is to spray a light base, go over it with orange and only then lay the red on in a thin coat. The dark shade then suits shadows and joints.
The Primary Red and Naples Red shades are shared by this selection with two other sets of the line, which is worth knowing when planning a purchase.
