Journeyman Miniatures - Mother Nature

Journeyman Miniatures - Mother Nature

The collector's bust Mother Nature from the Journeyman Miniatures series in the Green Stuff World range. The size of the bust is given by the manufacturer on the packaging; with fantasy subjects a scale is not commonly given, because the real subject they would relate to is missing.

An organic subject and what to do with it

Natural and plant subjects are among the most rewarding on busts, and at the same time among the most treacherous. Green and brown shades tend to merge into one indeterminate area as soon as only one tone is used. The solution is to work with glazes, that is with very thinned layers that are applied over one another and gradually change the temperature of an area without overpowering the shape beneath them. The large format of a bust is ideal for this procedure, because on a small figure the differences between the individual layers would be lost before anybody managed to register them.

What it pays to give time to with natural subjects

• telling the plant parts apart from the skin by a different saturation and a different surface
• not staying with a single green, but shifting it into warm and cool positions alike
• keeping the shaded areas deep, otherwise the organic shapes lose volume
• leaving the face as the lightest and cleanest point of the whole composition

Who Mother Nature is suitable for

For collectors of fantasy figural sculpture with a natural tone and for modelers who want to practice work with glazes and with color temperature over a large area. A natural subject moreover goes well with any display case, because it calls for no knowledge of a particular world or series to make sense. The name of the character and of the series stay in the manufacturer's original wording.
