A snap-fit plastic kit of the Kobu combat machine in the Kai variant, in the personal finish of the character Sumire Kanzaki. On these models Bandai uses injection-molded plastic in several colors divided across the sprues, so the model has its coloring as soon as it is assembled and the joints hold by snapping together without glue. The size of the built model, the number of parts and the contents of the package are given on the box.
Kobu is the designation of a combat machine from the Japanese series Sakura Wars, where the individual machines carry a personal color finish after their pilots. The Kai variant represents a modernized version of the basic type. Artistically it is a mecha designed in the spirit of retro-futurist aesthetics: a robust body, a bold color area and relatively little fine technical detail, which makes the model a rewarding display piece with a clean silhouette. The particular weapon fit in the package is not described in the name.
Models with large color areas reveal every flaw of the surface, so it pays to give time to the parting seams. Fill the seam with a thin layer of putty, let it cure thoroughly and run the sanding block across the whole panel, not just across the joint, or a hollow will arise that the varnish will emphasize. The color accents typical of a machine's personal finish are handled well with masking tape cut into thin strips with a knife; it holds a sharp edge better if you spray it first with the base color, so that any creep stays in the same shade. Bring out the panel lines sparingly, as these machines are not meant to look worn. A unifying semi-matte varnish at the end will level the differences between glossy and matte paints.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
