A modeling material for building your own details. The box contains 14 pieces of round lead wire 0.9 mm in diameter and 120 mm long. Lead is a very soft metal: the wire bends with your fingers alone, holds its shape completely once bent and, unlike steel or brass wire, does not spring back. That is precisely its main advantage; once a cable or hose run has been laid, it stays exactly where you put it.

Use

• Wiring and lines in a cockpit, an engine bay or the bed of a vehicle
• Hydraulic hoses and lines on aircraft landing gear legs
• Tow and lashing cables, tie-down lines and straps
• Stiffeners, handrails, grab handles and small accessories missing from a kit
• Building your own parts where you need a material that holds its position after shaping

Working the material

Divide the wire with a sharp scalpel by pressure, or with side cutters; lead cuts easily and does not crumble. Shape the bends with your fingers or with smooth-jawed tweezers, and make sharp breaks over an edge; the material is soft enough to take repeated fine adjustment of position. It is bonded with super glue, and with epoxy on larger areas. Before painting, degrease the wire and give it a coat of base color, as a finish would otherwise hold worse on smooth metal. The heavier 0.9 mm diameter suits larger scales, where it should match more prominent hoses and cable bundles.

For modelers who finish a kit beyond the contents of the box, build dioramas or add details from documentation. Even a beginner can manage to work with it.

Lead is a soft heavy metal. Wash your hands after working with it, do not put the material in your mouth and keep it out of reach of children.
