A finished scenery base that forms the floor of a forest: the soil under the trees with undergrowth, litter and discontinuous low vegetation. The dense forest version means that the substrate is darker and richer than for light growth, which matches places little light reaches. It is not a kit for a tree and not a loose material; a piece is laid and glued onto the terrain.
The forest floor tends to be the most underrated place in dioramas. A bare painted board under the trees gives a model away at once, whereas a layered substrate with litter and undergrowth gives a scene depth. This base suits going under finished trees, by a forest track, at the edge of a clearing and for covering the transition between forest and open ground. All you then have to add are the trunks, and possibly individual plants and stumps.
Lay the growth only onto finished, painted and dusted terrain. Try the intended spot dry first, tear or cut the piece to an irregular shape as needed, since a sharp straight edge does not arise in nature. It is glued with PVA wood glue, and a drop of cyanoacrylate will serve for a firm hold on a hard substrate. Hide the transition between the growth and the surrounding soil with a sprinkled fine scatter, grit or pigment, so that the growth does not look like a glued-on carpet. You can match the coloring with a light overspray of heavily thinned paint from above or by dusting with pigment, always only very lightly and once dry. Mark the places where the tree trunks are to go in advance and part the growth around them, so that a trunk grows out of the soil and does not stand on the growth. You will support the depth of the shadow with a very thin dark paint applied into the hollows.
This is a scenery accessory for building a diorama, not a model kit. The base, the glue and any further materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
