About product

The color

A light gray shade listed under number 63 of the German RLM aviation color chart. A number from the chart is an unambiguous specification: it says which of the light grays this is, and it lets the shade be traced again years later or compared with another subject marked the same way. The name Light Grey alone would not be enough for that, because modeling uses a whole family of light grays and the differences between them show clearly as soon as you put two models side by side.

How to apply the paint

Stir the paint thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles to the bottom of the bottle. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging and use the thinner intended for this range; a foreign thinner can curdle the paint. Apply it in several thin coats and let each dry in between, because one heavy coat drowns the fine surface relief and rounds off the edges. Wash and degrease the surface beforehand, and the paint will hold noticeably better.

What to watch out for with light grays

Light shades cover less well than dark ones, so reckon on more coats and on a light base, over which the shade will not go cold and dull. On large smooth areas every blemish and every transition between coats shows as well, so work the area in one go and spray at an even distance. Close the remaining paint in the bottle well, because with light tones every thickening shows in the smoothness of the next coat.

Thinner, brushes, airbrushes and the model are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

RLM is the German aviation color chart, and number 63 in it belongs to a light gray. The number is unambiguous, so the shade can be compared with any other subject marked the same way.

Use the thinner intended for this range and the thinning ratio stated by the manufacturer on the packaging. A thinner from another range can curdle the paint or spoil the adhesion.

The volume of the package is not stated here; you will find it on the bottle itself.

Light grays cover less well than dark colors. Apply them in several thin coats and use a light base, over which the shade will not go cold and dull.
