Line decals solve a problem that troubles every modeler: the need to run a perfectly straight, sharply bounded line across a curved body, which is not easy to do either with a brush or with masking.
The surface underneath should be smooth and glossy before they go on: on a matte surface air is trapped under the decal and a silvered edge appears. Cut the line off with a small margin, position it, and line the direction up before you press it down, because the straightness of a line is judged at once and little is forgiven. On curved surfaces a decal softener helps the strip follow the shape instead of staying stretched over a hollow. Once it is dry, give the whole surface a clear coat so that the edge of the decal disappears under the finish and the line reads as part of the paint. Always compare the specific application procedure with the instructions on the packaging.
