A liquid pigment from the Liquid Pigments line. The pigment is mixed into a liquid carrier: it is applied with a brush exactly on the spot and once the carrier has dried a dry matte pigment layer remains. It is neither an opaque paint nor a wash. The BURNT EARTH shade is a warm red-brown burnt earth and belongs on clay and iron-rich soils, on brick dust and on the transition between earth and rust. That is exactly why it is often used as an intermediate step: on its own it makes dry red-brown grime, with darker shades it makes old mud and with lighter ones a transition into dust. The volume of the package, the type of carrier and the composition are given on the label from the manufacturer.

Use

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before every use; the pigment settles to the bottom.
• Apply onto a matte surface; on gloss varnish the pigment does not hold.
• Build the effect up in layers; the red-brown shade is saturated and in one heavy layer it looks unnatural.
• It works well around rust and in places where the paint is worn, where it moves naturally into corrosion tones.
• Once it has dried, pick the surplus up with a dry brush or a cotton bud.
• Seal the finished effect with a pigment fixer or a matte varnish.

For modelers who build equipment in clay and iron-rich settings, and for builders of dioramas with brick buildings, where the dust has to tie in with the color of the bricks. It also serves well on agricultural and construction equipment and on figures and tabletop gaming terrain.
