The package contains a finished instrument panel for the PT-13 Kaydet training biplane in 1:32. It is not a model of the aircraft and not a whole photo-etched set but one particular part etched from sheet and printed in color at the maker's works. The dials and the lettering are finished and the panel only has to be fitted into the cockpit. On a training machine with open cockpits the instrument panel is permanently in view, so a well made detail pays off twice over.
The Kaydet was an American training biplane of the 1930s and 1940s on which thousands of pilots went through basic training. It had a fixed landing gear, two open cockpits one behind the other and a sturdy structure that stood up to rough treatment by pupils. The PT-13 designation corresponds to the form with a Lycoming radial engine, while otherwise identical airframes with a Continental engine carried the designation PT-17. The equipment of the cockpits was simple, which makes a legible instrument panel a prominent feature of the interior.
First check dry how much room is left in the cockpit once the plastic panel has been removed. Cut the etched part out of the fret with a sharp knife, level the edges with a file and then simply seat it in place. Apply a minimum of cyanoacrylate glue, ideally with the tip of a pin around the perimeter of the reverse side. Never overspray the printing. If you want to bring the dials out, put a drop of gloss varnish onto them. It is advisable to finish the surrounding cockpit structure before you glue the panel in, so that it is not scratched during the further work.
This is an accessory, not a model of the aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
