Six shades of the Luftwaffe from the Spanish Civil War. It includes the early pattern to the regulation of 1937 and the cockpit gray that the machines carried for the whole following decade.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Legion Condor was a German air and ground unit which between 1936 and 1939 intervened in the Spanish Civil War on the side of the insurgents. The machines flown here were only being introduced into service at that moment, and it is from here that most of the experience came with which the Luftwaffe went into the great conflict.
The core of the lineup is the quartet of tones introduced by the standard pattern valid from the middle of 1937. A light gray covered the early biplanes overall, a dark brown and a green made up the upper surfaces of machines such as the He 51, Ju 87, He 111 or Do 17, and a light blue belonged on the lower surfaces. According to some authors the early Bf 109 of the B to E versions carried this pattern on their upper surfaces as well.
The last of the shades is a point of interest. The black-gray was never withdrawn from interiors and remained the standard for instrument panels and places visible from outside for the whole of the war, so it suits models of machines from later years as well. The lineup therefore does not serve only for building aircraft from a single conflict but also covers the transition to the later marking.
