That is exactly why a half-round file tends to be the first one modelers reach for when buying a single piece instead of a whole set.
Where it comes into play. On evening out parting lines and flash, on cleaning up the remains of sprue gates, on shaping cured putty and on inner curves a flat file cannot reach.
