Border Model metal handle for scribing tips, purple version

This is a modeling tool, not a kit. The Border Model metal handle serves to clamp the scribing tips of the same manufacturer, with which panel lines are restored, hatch joints are scribed or the texture of a planked deck is suggested. The purple version has a practical point: when you have several handles on the bench, each with a tip of a different width, you will recognize the right one before you reach for the model.

Use

• Clamp the tip in the handle and tighten it, so that it neither turns nor slides out under the stroke.
• Scribe with light repeated strokes toward you, not with one deep cut.
• Set the route of the line out in advance with tape or a flexible template and hold the handle square to the surface.
• After the work, take the tip out and store it separately, so that it is not blunted against the other tools in the drawer.

For modelers who scribe panel lines regularly and find it worth having each tip in a handle of its own, and also for those looking for a replacement for a damaged or lost holder. A metal body is heavier than a plastic holder, so the pressure is dosed more sensitively and the hand holds the line better even during longer work. Count on the handle alone not doing the work: you also need a scribing tip of a suitable width, chosen according to the scale and the character of the line.
