About product

What kind of shade it is

A metallic paint of a blue tone named Neptunus Blue. Metallic shades differ from opaque colors in carrying fine metal particles in the binder; as it dries, those particles level out on the surface and give the coat a sheen that changes as the model is turned to the light. It suits anywhere a surface is to read as colored metal, that is on accessories, on the armor and equipment of figures or on areas meant to catch the eye in the overall view.

Preparation and application

The metal particles settle at the bottom, so stir the paint thoroughly before use and repeat the stirring several times during the work, or the first and the last strokes will look different. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's directions on the container; the thinner meant for this line will hold the binder together, whereas a randomly chosen solvent can curdle the coat. Apply several thin coats rather than one heavy one and let the paint flash off between coats. The base matters more than with ordinary paints: the smoother and more even the surface, the more cleanly the particles level out and the stronger the sheen. Scratches from sanding and fingerprints, on the other hand, are emphasized under a metallic coat.

  • a metallic blue shade under the name Neptunus Blue
  • stir thoroughly before use and during the work
  • the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's directions on the container
  • apply in several thin coats
  • it comes out best over a smooth, well-prepared base

Who it is for

The paint will be appreciated by modelers and figure painters who want a colored metallic look straight from the bottle. Try any further adjustment of the shade on an offcut first: a metallic surface takes darkening and varnish coats differently from matte paint, and the result can then hardly be undone.

Terms of supply

A thinner, brushes, an airbrush and modeling tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The thinner meant for this line, in the ratio the manufacturer gives on the container. A randomly chosen solvent can curdle the coat.

The metal particles that create the metallic look settle at the bottom of the bottle. Without stirring, the first strokes would look different from the last.

Over a smooth, evenly prepared surface. A metallic coat emphasizes scratches from sanding and fingerprints, so it pays to smooth the surface perfectly first.

Yes, by darkening and by varnishing, but make a test on an offcut first. A metallic surface reacts to further coats differently from matte paint.
