Eight lacquer shades for the modern Luftwaffe, from the camouflage of the Starfighters to the low-visibility finishes of the Tornados.
Responsibility details are not available.
The postwar Luftwaffe of the Federal Republic went through three major finish regulations and this line-up handles all of them. The oldest clothed the Starfighters, the Canadian Sabres and the Fiat G.91s, the middle one belonged to the Phantoms, the transport machines and the Alpha Jets, and the youngest came in with the Tornados. A chapter of its own is the naval version, worn not only by aircraft but also by the Sea Lynx and the rescue Sea King helicopters.
Six shades match the German RAL standard and cover the lower surfaces, the upper decking and the warning elements in a brilliant orange. They are completed by two metallic tones: aluminum for machines flying in bare metal and a light gray to the American standard, of the kind on the lower wing surfaces of the early Starfighters. The range is built on a lacquer binder, is sprayed in light coats and dries to a smooth surface suited to taking decals.
Bright patterns with crisp edges ended in the 1980s, when it turned out that in combat at long range a blurred outline mattered more than imitating the landscape below the aircraft. Muted gray tones with soft transitions came in instead, and the national and unit markings shrank to a barely legible form.
The set holds only the paints; the models themselves and the thinner are ordered separately.
