About product

Russia Cockpit Blue — Mr.Paint Acrylic Modeling Paint, Aqua Line

A blue shade intended for the cockpit interiors of Soviet aircraft. It belongs to the water-thinnable Aqua acrylic line by the Slovak manufacturer Mr.Paint. This is a modeling paint, not a kit — the package is the paint itself.

Watch out for mixing up the lines. Mr.Paint is known chiefly for its lacquer (nitro) line and uses the same shade names in both lines — so you cannot tell them apart by name alone. This paint is from the acrylic Aqua line: it is thinned with water or with Aqua acrylic thinner from the same manufacturer, not with lacquer thinner. Acrylic is gentler on plastic and produces almost no smell while working.

Which Soviet cockpit shade to choose

This is the key point: the manufacturer offers several Soviet cockpit shades, and they are not interchangeable. Alongside this blue, the same line also has a turquoise shade (a green-blue, a noticeably different tone), plus a light blue and a light gray, and even a separate shade for the Sukhoi design bureau. This alone shows that Soviet cockpits did not have one universal color — it varies by aircraft type, airframe manufacturer and period. The manufacturer does not declare specific types for individual shades, so follow the instructions for your specific kit or documentation for the aircraft in question. If your instructions call for a turquoise (green-blue) cockpit, this blue is not it, and you need the turquoise variant.

Use

  • Cockpits, instrument panels, cockpit tubs and interior parts of Soviet aircraft.
  • Sprayed with an airbrush or applied with a brush; fine-tune the consistency with water or Aqua acrylic thinner.
  • Apply in thin coats over a cured primer — covering power is then at its best.
  • Coat with gloss varnish before decals; once dry, highlight detail with a wash and pigments.

Who the paint is for

For modelers building Soviet and Russian aircraft who want the cockpit in the correct shade, and for those switching from lacquer paints to a gentler water-thinnable acrylic without losing spray quality.

A modeling paint, not a kit. Water-thinnable acrylic is gentler to work with than lacquer lines, but still ventilate and do not inhale the aerosol when airbrushing. Keep out of the reach of children. Shake the paint thoroughly before use.

FAQ

It is a water-thinnable acrylic from the Aqua line. Mr.Paint uses the same shade names in its original lacquer (nitro) line too, so you cannot tell them apart by name — this paint is thinned with water or Aqua acrylic thinner, never with lacquer thinner.

They are two different shades and are not interchangeable: this one is blue, the other is turquoise, that is, shifted toward green-blue. The manufacturer also offers a light blue, a light gray and a special shade for Sukhoi aircraft — the choice depends on the aircraft's type and period. The manufacturer does not declare specific types for each shade, so follow your kit's instructions.

The Aqua line is designed to be sprayed practically straight from the bottle. Depending on your airbrush and pressure, you can fine-tune the consistency with water or Aqua acrylic thinner from the same manufacturer. Always test the spray on a sample surface first.

Yes, the manufacturer states the line is suited to both brush and airbrush. Apply thin coats with a brush and let each one dry thoroughly.
