Textured sheet - spike pattern paving (AK interactive)

A styrene sheet measuring 245 x 195 mm with an embossed relief of paving whose stones are not laid in a regular square grid but in a spike, wedge-shaped pattern. There is 1 piece in the package. It is not a section nor a kit, but a ready base for building sceneries and surfaces: you cut out the shape you need and glue it to the base board of a diorama.

What the sheet serves for

It suits wherever regular square slab paving would look too severe - historic courtyards, the lanes of old towns, the areas in front of buildings, yards and access roads. The irregular pattern takes an imprecise join better and a damaged or weathered surface is easier to make from it. It also comes into its own on figure bases and as a facing for plinths.

Work tips

• Cut with a sharp knife along a rule; with thicker material score and break it.
• Level the edges after cutting with a file, so that the sheet seats without a gap.
• Create damage to the paving by engraving cracks and prising out a few stones - with an irregular pattern it looks very natural.
• Paint from a dark base, pass the tops with a dry brush and tune the individual stones with variations of shade.
• A wash into the joints and pigments in the corners give depth and dust.
