A round plastic base 28.5 millimeters in diameter in a black finish. A figure or a model is glued onto it, by which it gains a stable stance, can be picked up without touching the paint on the figure itself, and a whole unit or collection gets a unified look. In tabletop games the base has a second task as well: it defines how much room the figure takes up on the playing surface, and distances are measured from its edge, which makes the diameter an important figure.
The black surface can be left as it is; the edge then comes across as clean and does not have to be painted. More often, though, the base is worked up further, so that the figure does not stand on an empty surface.
Before gluing, wipe the base with alcohol, because new plastic tends to carry grease and neither paint nor glue holds on it. Choose the glue according to the material of the figure; with metal and resin pieces cyanoacrylate works well. Apply loose material onto the surface into a layer of PVA glue and tap the surplus off, because otherwise it comes loose later. Finish the paint and the texture before you glue the figure on, if the stance of the figure allows it.
