A clear sheet 0.38 millimeters thick is a material for anything on a model that needs to be seen through. It serves as windows for truck and locomotive cabs, side windows of railcars, openings into halls and hangars, instrument covers, headlight lenses, display cases and glass panels on a diorama, and even a calm water surface in a small tank. The thickness corresponds to roughly fifteen thousandths of an inch and is the thickest of the three clear sheets the brand offers; the finer variants measure 0.13 and 0.25 millimeters.
The best result comes from scoring and snapping: a blade drawn several times along the same groove against a ruler creates a deep enough cut, and the material then snaps cleanly, without a ragged edge. A fine file and polishing smooth out the rest so the edge does not stay cloudy. A sheet of this thickness can be gently bent into a simple curve after heating over a heat source, and it can even be shaped over a mold if the plastic is heated evenly.
Thin liquid cement for styrene melts and welds the joint permanently, but it leaves haze on visible glazing, and liquid cyanoacrylate creates a white film from its vapors. So glue clear panels with a dispersion adhesive designed for canopies, which dries clear and lets excess be wiped off with a damp cloth. Protect the surrounding area with masking tape while sanding and painting, since fine scratches are difficult to remove from clear material.
