Six shades for Polish Su-22M4 and UM3K aircraft after overhaul: the four-color upper camouflage, the blue-green underside and aluminum on the rear fuselage.
Responsibility details are not available.
The swing-wing machines lasted remarkably long in Polish service and their late coloring is well documented, because it came from a single plant. The specification of this set refers to it repeatedly: it is the WZL-2 overhaul works in Bydgoszcz, from which the aircraft came out in a uniform scheme.
The lower surfaces carry Blue-Green to FS 35414. The upper camouflage is built on a base of Grey Olive to RAL 6006, followed by three shades in standards matching the alliance tones: NATO Green is listed as FS 34094 and RAL 6031 F9, NATO Brown as FS 30051 and RAL 8027 F9 and NATO Black as FS 37030 and RAL 9021 F9. The double listing of both the American and the German standard for these three is useful, because comparing a photograph with a single table tends to be tricky.
The sixth bottle is Aluminium and has a specific job. It imitates the bare metal on the lower part of the rear fuselage and on the movable part of the variable-sweep wing, that is, exactly where thermal and mechanical loads do not let paint survive.
The set covers both the single-seat Su-22M4 and the two-seat UM3K. The shades belong to a water-thinnable acrylic line, so the boundaries between the camouflage fields can be drawn freehand with an airbrush without masking.
The advantage of this subject is its uniformity. The aircraft came out of overhaul with camouflage applied to the same specification, so one machine differed from another mainly in the degree of wear and in the stores under the wing, not in coloring. Photographs from later years therefore serve as a reliable guide for the whole fleet.
