A flat styrene strip of 0.50 x 4.0 mm and a length of 35 cm. A medium thickness for braces, doublers and flat surfaces. The unit of sale is one piece.
Responsibility details are not available.
Half a millimeter of thickness at a width of four millimeters is a compromise that holds a plane well and at the same time does not create a tall step on the model. Unlike the thinnest films the strip does not ripple when cement is applied along its whole length, and unlike heavy flat bar it can still be bent slightly lengthwise into a curve.
One strip measures thirty-five centimeters. The material is white polystyrene, that is the same substance the parts of plastic kits are molded from, so they work together without trouble.
When gluing a longer section it helps to start in the middle and work to both sides, so that any deviation is split and does not all meet at one end. The edges are sanded with fine paper once dry, which makes the transition into the surrounding surface disappear altogether.
A modeling knife makes the cut without trouble, but with exact dimensions it is better to lay a metal ruler against it. The white surface can be painted straight away, which makes it easier to check the shape even before the part is finally glued to the model. The offcuts are worth keeping; strips of this thickness make quick spacer wedges, shims and blanking plates for openings, for which other material tends to be needlessly bulky.
