About product

The color

A modeling paint in the shade Quartz Grey. The shade matches the RAL reference under the number 7039, so it is defined by a standard and can be looked up years later or compared against another source. That is practical when building models: a number from a reference is an unambiguous brief, whereas the name of a shade on its own is used more loosely by different manufacturers. The item belongs to the Orange Line range from Hataka.

How to use the paint

Shake the bottle thoroughly before use so that the pigment settled at the bottom is mixed back in. Thinner and thinning ratio differ from range to range, so use the thinner intended for this range and follow the instructions given by the manufacturer on the packaging; a thinner from a foreign range can curdle the paint. Always test the consistency and the coverage first on a piece of scrap plastic or on a hidden area of the model, and adjust the paint only after that test. The paint holds better on a surface that has been washed and degreased, and on large smooth areas a primer helps. Several thin coats give a more even result than one heavy one, which floods the fine surface relief and rounds off the edges.

Who it is for

The shade will be appreciated by modelers who work to the RAL reference and need a particular number, whether for a model of a vehicle, for accessories or for parts of a diorama. It is useful too where the same shade has to be used again for a later repair or when building a second model to make a pair.

Use the thinner intended for this range and the thinning ratio given by the manufacturer on the packaging. A thinner from another range can curdle the paint or worsen its adhesion.

You will find the volume of the package directly on the bottle.

Shake the bottle, apply the paint in several thin coats and let them dry between each other. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, and on large smooth areas use a primer.
