A modeling paint from the aircraft range of the Spanish brand AK interactive. It is a water-thinnable acrylic, that is a paint without aggressive solvents and without a penetrating smell, with a silk matte surface and good covering power. The package holds 17 ml and the bottle has a dropper for exact measuring drop by drop. The shade is defined by the German RAL standard, code RAL 5008, in German Graublau, that is gray-blue. It is an opaque paint, not a tinting or clear varnish.

What a shade to RAL means

The RAL standard is the German system of standardized shades, still used today in industry and in construction. For a modeler it matters for one practical reason: the code determines the tone exactly, so the shade can be bought again at any time in the same form and it can be looked up how it really appears. RAL 5008 is a darker gray-blue with a strong gray content, that is a color that reads on a model as restrained rather than markedly blue. That is worth knowing in advance, because in the bottle it looks bluer than it does on a sprayed surface.

Use

• spraying with an airbrush: stir the paint and thin it with water or with an acrylic thinner of the same type
• brush painting: apply several thin coats rather than one heavy one
• on plastic and resin a primer is advisable, and on bare metal essential
• before decals, go over the surface with a gloss varnish compatible with acrylics
• DO NOT THIN with lacquer or enamel thinners, as the paint would curdle
