Hexagon punch III from the Czech maker 3Detail is a tool for punching hexagonal shapes from thin material. It serves to make bolt heads and nuts for adding detail to a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The tool works on the principle of a punch and die: thin material is laid between them and a blow punches an accurate hexagon out of it. On a model these become bolt heads, nuts and flanges, the small things that most of all reveal the care given to detail on a finished piece. The Roman numeral in the name distinguishes this version from the other hexagon punches in the same manufacturer's lineup.
Work on a firm surface, ideally on a piece of hardwood laid on a stable table. Hold the material taut, set the punch at a right angle and strike once, decisively. Repeated tapping will fray the edge of the shape. Punched pieces tend to jump away, so put a dish or a piece of cloth under the tool. Before gluing, check that a piece has no raised burr; that is easily leveled by running it under your fingers on a smooth surface. The hexagons are glued to the model with superglue in small amounts.
The tool has sharp working edges and is used with a blow. Keep out of the reach of children. When working with lead foil, wash your hands afterwards.
