Red light-emitting diodes 5 mm in diameter from the range of Green Stuff World. It is an electrical component for a modeling workshop, not a kit. The larger diameter makes it a source that is visible in a model even where the light has to shine through a larger area.

Where red light is useful

In modeling red is the color of warning and of heat. It is used on the tail and warning lights of vehicles, on the warning beacons of chimneys and masts, on signaling in factory halls, or for the red lighting of a night command post. The second large field is fire: under a layer of pigment or behind a translucent material it can be turned into a glowing forge, molten metal, smoldering wreckage or a crater. A diameter of 5 mm gives enough light even to shine through the material around it.

What to keep in mind when building it in

• Prepare the hole to the diameter of the diode, that is 5 mm.
• With fire effects, hide the diode deeper, so that it is not seen as a point but as a glow.
• Settle the placement before the scene is closed up; afterward the cavity tends to be out of reach.
• Run the wiring through the structure or the base, not across a visible surface.
