RLM 02 GRAU (1938) – RC MARKER

This pen from the RC Marker range carries the gray tone listed under the designation RLM 02. The tip spreads the paint directly, so there is no brush, no palette and no mixing. That suits small parts, edges and hard-to-reach places where preparing the paint would take more time than the painting itself, as well as touch-ups on areas the previous coat did not cover.

What the RLM designation means

RLM is the color system of the German air ministry and every shade in it carries its own number. RLM 02 is a gray tone with a hint of green and is one of the most widespread shades on German aircraft: modelers know it above all from the interior surfaces of cockpits, from wheel wells and from parts left in the base color. Here too the shade number is a more reliable guide than a verbal description, because the system holds several gray tones.

How to work with the pen

• Test the shade first on a piece of scrap plastic or on a spot that will not be visible on the finished model.
• Apply a thin coat and let it dry; a second pass deepens the tone.
• Guide the tip in one direction, as repeated passes over a coat that has not dried wipe the paint away.
• On a clean, degreased matte base the paint holds more reliably than on smooth gloss.
• Wipe the tip after work and close the pen carefully so that it does not dry out.
• Handle thinning, cleaning and any clear coating according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.

What is supplied is the pen in the stated shade. Other shades, clear coats and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Keep out of the reach of children and work in a well-ventilated room.
