A light gray shade from the acrylic line by AMMO of Mig Jimenez. The abbreviation RLM denotes the German numbering system for aviation shades used in the 1930s and 1940s, in which the number 63 belongs to a light gray, that is, hellgrau. The paint is a water-thinnable acrylic in a dropper bottle, intended for brush and airbrush alike. Once dry it holds on plastic, on photo-etched parts and on resin, provided the surface has been cleared of grease and mold release agent.
Light gray paints are more demanding in coverage than middle tones, because the color of the plastic, filler and sanding marks show through them. So it pays to start with a primer, which unifies the surface and at the same time reveals unfinished seams before the final color floods them. Then apply two or three thin coats over the primer instead of one heavy one. If you apply the paint with a brush, thin it only slightly and work in one direction to avoid pronounced brush marks.
The paint will be appreciated by modelers who build aircraft models and need a shade listed to the RLM system, or who are looking for a neutral light gray for interiors, landing gear bays and accessories. A water-thinnable acrylic is practical for working at home without extraction.
Shake the bottle before use, as the pigment settles to the bottom. Work in a ventilated space, use a respirator when spraying and store the paint out of the reach of children at a temperature above freezing.
