The prefix tri points to what matters here: the stick has three separate abrasive sections with three different grits, 400, 1000 and 3000. The manufacturer describes it as a tool for shaping and for polishing, that is, for the whole finishing process in a single piece. The grade of abrasive is told by the color, so you do not have to guess which section you are using.
The point of the tool lies exactly in that combination of three. You do not have to swap between three different sticks or hunt for where you put the fine one: you start with 400 grit, which levels a seam or sands putty, carry on with 1000, which removes the scratches left by the first step, and finish with 3000 grit, which polishes the surface smooth, suitable for clear parts and painted surfaces too. Note: 400 is no longer a coarse abrasive for casting blocks and flash; reach for a coarse stick for those. The Tri-Stick comes in at the finishing stage.

Rinse the stick after work and let it dry; sanding sticks are generally reusable.
