About product

What the compound is for

Sculpey ORIGINAL is a modeling compound for shaping by hand. It does not dry out in the air, so you can break off work at any time and carry on with it the next day; it hardens only once it is cured in heat. Modelers use it for terrain and diorama accessories, as a base under rock or earth texture, for shaping small parts and for master models to work on further. A 454 g package will cover even a larger scene.

Working it and curing

Knead the compound for a while before shaping so that it softens and holds its form better. Work on a smooth surface and use metal or silicone modeling tools, which do not stick to the compound. The curing temperature, the heating time and the recommended layer thickness are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging; keep to these figures and do not exceed them, because overheated compound darkens. Thicker pieces are better built up in layers and cured step by step.

Finishing tips

A cured part can be sanded, cut, drilled and worked on further. Before painting, get the dust and the grease from your fingers off the surface, otherwise the paint will adhere less well. Texture is best created while the compound is still soft, by pressing in aluminum foil, a brush or a real stone. If you are joining the compound to a finished part, count on the joint holding only after curing, and choose the glue according to the material of the other piece.
