What the molds offer

Silicone molds with a graveyard motif. They serve to let you make the same element as many times as you need, and in exactly the form the scene is to have. Silicone is flexible, so a finished element comes out of the mold even when it has an intricate surface and undercut edges.

How the mold is worked with

Modeling putty is pressed into the mold, or casting material for your own castings is poured into it. Once cured, the element is lifted out of the flexible mold and the mold can be used again. That is how it differs from ready-made scenic accessories: you are not buying a particular number of pieces but the ability to make as many as suit your scene. The suitable materials and the setting time are stated by the manufacturer.

Work tips

• Wipe the mold before filling and free it of dust, otherwise it prints into the surface.
• Press the material in section by section and force the air out, so that no bubbles are left in the depths.
• Do not lift the element out before the material has set; pulling it while soft rounds the edges.
• True the excess on the back with a sharp blade and sand the surface.
• Wash and degrease the finished elements before painting.
• Store the mold flat; creased silicone remembers its shape.
