An injection-molded plastic kit of a character from the Japanese Dragon Ball series, made by Bandai. It is not a finished figure or a collector's statuette: the parts come on sprues and you assemble the model yourself. For character kits Bandai works with pre-colored parts and snap-fit joints, so the basic build needs neither glue nor paint. The number of parts, the height of the finished model and the range of accessories are stated on the box.
Ultra Instinct is one of the later forms of the series hero. It differs from the earlier transformations above all in color — instead of golden or blue hair comes a silvery gray shade with a cool sheen, and the accompanying aura has a whitish cast. This light, low-contrast coloring is interesting on a model because the shapes stand out through shadow rather than through color; all the more depends on how clean the surface is.
The light parts are merciless to sprue remnants and to grease from fingers, so before final assembly it is better to wash them in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let them dry thoroughly. On the silvery hair very fine drybrushing with a lighter shade pays off, since it emphasizes the edges of the strands, and a thin gray shadow can be worked into the recesses. Use opaque metallic paint sparingly: on a small area it looks good, but over a whole head it easily slips into a toy-like shine. Seal the model with a matte or satin varnish and leave the joint surfaces free.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
