About product

Sparmax Airbrush SX 0.3D

An airbrush from the Taiwanese manufacturer Sparmax, which Tamiya distributes in its own catalog. It is a double-action airbrush with gravity feed: the cup of 7 ml is integrated permanently in the body and has a lid that keeps the paint from splashing out. The body is metal and the air connection is of the 1/8 inch type. With a single trigger you control the air and the paint separately, so you change the depth and the width of the spray smoothly as you go.

Why a 0.3 mm nozzle

0.3 mm is the most versatile size and it handles the overwhelming majority of modeling work: base coats, camouflage, transitions, shading and the ordinary surfaces of kits. It is not as prone to clogging as the finest nozzles, and it can still mist. That is exactly why 0.3 mm is the recommended choice for a first airbrush.

Without a compressor you do not spray

Please note: you cannot spray with this airbrush on its own. It is only the airbrush itself. There is no compressor and no air hose in the package, and both have to be obtained separately. Without a source of compressed air with pressure regulation the airbrush has nothing to work with. Count also on a thinner matching your paint line, because paints practically always have to be thinned for an airbrush.

Care of the airbrush

The most important habit is to clean the airbrush right after you finish spraying, while the paint has not dried yet, because paint gone hard in the nozzle and on the needle is behind most of the problems modelers come with. The needle is the most sensitive component: bend the point and precise spraying is gone. Pull it out backwards out of the body of the airbrush, therefore, and never push it forwards through the nozzle. When spraying lacquer and solvent-based paints, good ventilation and a respirator are necessary, not merely a face mask.

Who it is for

  • Modelers who are getting their first airbrush and want a versatile tool
  • Builders of plastic kits, cars and figures, as 0.3 mm covers the whole ordinary range
  • Those who already have a compressor and are looking for a dependable airbrush for everyday use

A compressor, a hose, paints and thinners are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. When working with solvent-based and lacquer paints, always ventilate and use a respirator.

FAQ

No. The package contains the airbrush alone. Both a compressor and an air hose have to be obtained separately, because without a source of compressed air the airbrush does not work.

Yes. The 0.3 mm nozzle is the most versatile size: it handles base coats, areas and camouflage transitions, and it clogs less than finer nozzles. For a first airbrush it is the safest choice.

Acrylic, enamel and lacquer modeling paints, but always thinned with the matching thinner of the line. Thick unthinned paint will clog the airbrush.

Flush and clean the airbrush at once, while the paint is still wet. Pull the needle out backwards only, never forwards through the nozzle, because a bent point no longer sprays precisely.
