Flag decoration belongs to the finishing work on a ship model and can lift the overall impression considerably. This accessory measures 36 x 70 mm and carries the cross of St. George, that is, the English flag symbol. It is not a ship kit, but separate equipment for the rigging. The material, the way it is printed and the number of pieces in the package are stated on the packaging.
The cross of St. George, a red cross with arms of equal length on a white field, is a traditional English emblem. In naval history it appeared both on the flags of vessels and as part of the combined British flags that came later. On models of historic English sailing ships it is therefore used commonly and it is one of the most easily recognized symbols. Please match the choice of flag to the period of your own subject.
So that the flag does not look like a flat piece of paper, it has to be shaped. A method that works is to dampen it lightly, fold it over a thin wire or a line forming the hem of the flag and let it dry in a waved position. The shape can be fixed permanently with thinned PVA glue. Attach it to the line with small loops and glue it only in spots with super glue, so that the material does not show through. If you are shortening the flag, cut it with a sharp knife against a rule, as scissors fray the edge. Choose the waving so that it matches the direction in which the model is turned toward the viewer.
The accessory is supplied on its own, without glue and without line. It is not a ship kit.
