Stone - Black is a scenic material by Woodland. The name designates it as stone in a black form. It is not a model and not a kit, but a material for building surfaces, gravel areas and stone detail on a diorama.

The fixing decides whether a scene will last

With stone materials the most common mistake is in the gluing, because the glue is applied as it is with vegetation, that is from above. Dark stone, though, tends to be heavier than foliage and thinned glue applied from above will not hold it, only dull the surface. The proven procedure is the opposite: first apply glue to the area, pour or set the material into the wet glue, press it lightly, and only at the end flood the whole thing once more with thinned PVA glue with a drop of dish soap, which runs into the gaps. The drop of dish soap matters here, because it lowers the surface tension and the glue stops beading up on smooth stone. Let the area dry undisturbed and without handling.

Combining with scatters and further tips

• Combine the stone with a finer scatter. A single grain size makes an area read as visually flat.
• Use the dark material sparingly as a contrast, because continuous black areas visually close a scene off.
• Once dry, vacuum away the excess unattached material or tip the board carefully.
• Leave the edges of paved areas irregular and let them be overgrown by small vegetation.
• Deal with the color unification only after the fixing has dried, not during it.

For builders of dioramas with gravel and paved areas, for display bases under vehicles and for players who build their own terrain. The work makes few demands; the only thing that is crucial is fixing done properly.

Look for the volume of the package, the grain coarseness and the coverage on the packaging. Do not breathe loose materials in, ventilate when working with glues and keep everything out of the reach of small children.
