This accessory from Artwox Model brings a wooden deck surface for the plastic model of the ship Thousand-Sunny. The set makes no model on its own; it assumes that you already have the base kit at home. The wood gives the deck a grain and a depth that a molding with engraved grooves does not have even after careful painting. The outline of the individual areas matches the decks of the Bandai 0171627 kit.
The Thousand-Sunny is a fictional vessel from the Japanese comic and animated series One Piece, where she serves the main crew as a floating home. In construction she is based on a classic sailing ship, but she is completed with striking fantasy elements: the lion figurehead at the bow and the grassy area at the stern are among her hallmarks. A model of this ship therefore stands or falls with its colors and with the contrast of materials, and that is exactly where the wood does most.
Finish the deck surfaces first and let them cure, and only then reach for the wood. Work in a clean space, because fingerprints are hard to get back out of a light surface. Lay the smaller cutouts around the superstructures last, so that you have somewhere to correct any deviation. The finished surface will take gentle weathering with a dry brush, which brings out the individual rows.
