Tungsten Steel Line Carver is a U-STAR scriber made of tungsten steel, meant for scribing and restoring panel lines on plastic models.
Responsibility details are not available.
A line scriber is a tool that pulls a narrow groove into the surface of plastic. It is not a cut with a knife: the tip is drawn repeatedly along the same path and with each pass takes off only a thin layer of material, so the modeler can meter the depth of the line gradually. The tungsten steel given in the designation of the tool is one of the hard tool materials that keep their edge even when working on hard kit plastic.
The most common mistake is trying to scribe a line in one pass. The correct procedure is several light passes along one path; the tip is always drawn toward you and the path is marked out beforehand with a template or tape, because once the tool has wandered the mark can only be put right with putty and sanding. The material removed stays as a fine burr along the line, and that is polished off lightly once you are done. A hard tip is sensitive to levering sideways, so the scriber is not used as a scraper on an area. Store it separately, so that the tip does not knock against other metal tools.
