A Lifecolor paint in a dark brown earthy shade, listed under the designation UA092 and the number FS30118. The abbreviation FS refers to the American Federal Standard, which describes shades by a numerical code, so the tone can be looked up and compared against reference material for the subject. The name Dark Earth has become established in modeling for the dark brown camouflage color carried on the upper surfaces of British aircraft of the Second World War.
On the camouflage fields of aircraft, on vehicles and on artillery pieces, on earth, dust and mud in a diorama, and on the leather parts of a figure's kit. Earthy browns are also a rewarding tone for mixing: adding them to a green or a gray takes the cold cast off it and the color then looks more worn.
Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before work; the pigment settles at the bottom when standing and unmixed paint covers unevenly. For the airbrush, thin the paint with the thinner intended for this line in the ratio stated by the manufacturer on the packaging and apply it in two or three light coats with a gap for drying; light coats preserve the engraved detail, whereas one heavy coat floods it. For the brush the paint suits unthinned or only slightly thinned. Before the decals go on, give the area a gloss clear coat; the matte varnish comes only at the end of the build.
The delivery contains the shade of paint named. Thinner, brushes, varnishes and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
