The dark brown disruptive areas of British vehicles are handled by the shade Very Dark Brown SCC 1a, a water-based acrylic paint from the modeling range of the Lifecolor brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
The British army numbered its camouflage shades in the SCC series. While the lower number two in it designates the brown overall base, one-a belongs to a markedly darker brown tone that was applied to vehicles over the base in large irregular fields. The result was a contrasting two-color pattern that American vehicles of the same period practically never knew.
Why it looks different from an olive vehicle
American ground vehicles stood on a single olive tone and their modeling came only from wear, dust and rubbed edges. The British, against that, worked with a second color directly in the paint. For a modeler there is a practical consequence: on a British vehicle what is decided is the drawing, on an American one the shade and its fading. This very dark brown tone is exactly that second color, which tells a British vehicle apart at a glance.
For modelers of British vehicles of the first half of the 1940s who want their camouflage drawing in the right tone, and for everyone looking for a really dark brown without a red cast.
