The faded position of black offered by Lifecolor Faded Night Black FS37038 Satin looks more believable on a scale model than a rich black, and the satin surface gives it a sheen besides.
Responsibility details are not available.
An acrylic black whose name carries both the number of the American Federal Standard and the gloss level. The word faded gives away how the shade is built: it is not the deepest black possible, but a black shifted a good way up, the way a real finish looks after some time in service and in the sun.
Why a pure black does not work on a model
A scale model reflects less light than a real machine, and a rich black runs together on it into a shapeless area in which both the drawing of the panels and the shadows disappear. A shade shifted into a faded position holds its shapes and still reads as black all the same. The satin sheen given in the name contributes to that by giving the surface a reflection, so that it does not look like a flat silhouette cut out of paper.
It will suit modelers of modern aircraft and ground vehicles who want a black in their palette that is usable over large areas, not only on small details. It will also serve well where layering is the method and the difference between black and a dark gray has to carry shape.
An acrylic paint for modeling use. Work in a ventilated area and keep it out of the reach of children.
