A metallic acrylic paint in a polished steel shade from the Lifecolor metallic range, in a bottle with a volume of twenty-two milliliters. The name refers to the casing of modern ammunition, that is to a surface that is neither dull gray nor mirror-bright but has a cool metallic glow of its own. For this range the manufacturer states that a black base coat is not needed, which is a relief compared with most metallic paints: it does away with one layer and with it the risk of losing detail under the metal.
Shake the bottle especially thoroughly and again during work, as metallic pigment settles to the bottom faster than ordinary pigment and badly stirred paint will leave a dull patch. Metallic shades look best on a smooth surface, so level it beforehand. Apply them at the very end, because they are hard to overspray and masking tape pulls the metallic surface off. An airbrush manages a thinner and more even coat than a brush.
