Ultra-Fine File is a U-STAR very fine sanding stick — the tool for finishing work, typically for sanding between individual coats of clear.
Responsibility details are not available.
The finest grade of sanding stick in the U-STAR tool range, as ultra-fine in the name indicates. It is not a tool for shaping; at this stage nothing is taken off any more, only what keeps the surface from being smooth is knocked back.
Every coat of clear settles a little dust on itself and leaves a fine grain that even a well-extracted workshop cannot avoid. When the next coat is sprayed onto such a surface, the flaw does not disappear beneath it but is brought out instead. That is why gloss finishes are sanded back lightly between coats. A very fine grade is built for that: it knocks the grain back and leaves the layer beneath untouched. The same grit also suits the stage before decals go on, where a gloss and perfectly smooth base decides whether a decal keys without silvering.
Sand back only once a coat has dried completely, not once it is dry to the touch — fresh clear smears and the abrasive clogs in it. Keep the pressure to a minimum, use short strokes and keep wiping the surface with a soft cloth, so that you can see whether the grain is gone. The most sensitive places are edges and riveted details: that is exactly where you break through to the paint under the clear fastest. If that happens, do not try to save it by sanding; spray the place again and repeat the procedure.
