Alfalfa — Model Scene scenery growth

Alfalfa is finished growth for dioramas and display-case scenes from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It imitates a field of a forage crop that is among the most widespread cultivated plants of the temperate zone and the Mediterranean. Compared with low clover, alfalfa growth is taller, airier and made up of slender stems with fine leaflets and small purplish flowers.

What the vegetation looks like

The structure is upright and irregular — the plants do not stand in rows like grain but form continuous, slightly open growth. The pre-mixed green with purple accents gives the area a depth that with single-colored static grass is only achieved by laborious toning. The material is finished: it is neither assembled nor sprinkled, only trimmed and glued on.

Use in a diorama

A field of alfalfa suits the agricultural landscape of Central and Southern Europe, the Balkans, the Mediterranean and rural scenes around farm buildings. In a military diorama it creates a striking contrast between a fresh field and a dusty vehicle or infantry moving through the growth. Coat the substrate with PVA or thin white glue, lay the growth against it and press it down until the glue goes tacky. The taller growth makes it possible to cover the lower parts of figures and running gear partly, which gives a scene scale and depth. You will create driven-over places and worn trails by pressing it down and dusting with pigment.

Who the vegetation is for

• Builders of agricultural and rural dioramas
• Military vehicle and figure modelers looking for taller summer growth
• Railroad modelers and builders of landscape modules
• Modelers who want a finished area without sprinkling and painting in

This is a scenery accessory for building dioramas, not a model kit. The glue, the base board and any further terrain materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
