Purple, ruby, brownish pink and pale pink for exposed tissue and the mutations of fantasy models.

Fantasy models often cannot do without places where something unpleasant is meant to show: an open maw, spilled entrails, tentacles, the fused flesh of a mutant. Such a surface cannot be solved with an ordinary flesh tone, because it needs to be saturated and mildly repellent at the same time. The four tones in this package are chosen for exactly that purpose and work together as one scale.
Purple gives the deepest shadow and belongs in splits and under edges, ruby works as the saturated middle of the surface, brownish pink calms it down toward the shade of skin and a pale pink with an unhealthy cast closes off the highest places. The order can also be used in reverse, when the tissue is meant to look dried rather than fresh, and the extreme tones can be thinned into glazes.
The shine matters more than the shade. Gloss varnish or a thicker clear medium is applied in spots on the finished surface, where after drying it resembles moisture, and it is left only where liquid would gather. The rest stays matte, otherwise the whole surface looks like plastic. A thin purple glaze drawn over the surrounding skin then ties the unnatural colors in with the rest of the figure.
The scale serves outside fantasy subjects as well. Ruby and brownish pink suit the tongues, gums and muzzles of animals, pale pink suits scars and grazes on historical figures, and purple works as a base under dark fabrics, to which it gives depth without graying them.
