The kit captures the American fleet submarine USS Gato SS-212 in her 1941 configuration, that is, from the beginning of her service. It is an injection-molded plastic model from Hobby Boss in 1:350 scale from a modern mold. Thanks to the smaller part count the package also suits a quicker build, and a display stand completes it.
USS Gato was the lead boat of the class of American fleet submarines of the same name deployed in the Pacific during the Second World War. The Gato class boats had a long range and strong torpedo armament and were the backbone of the American submarine campaign against Japanese shipping. The 1941 form corresponds to the early arrangement of the conning tower before the later wartime modifications.
The model can be built as a full hull or in a waterline version. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic. The painting starts from the period American naval grays; you will create the transitions between shades and the weathered surface of the hull with an airbrush and a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
