X-24 Clear Yellow (Enamel)

Tamiya X-24 Clear Yellow (Enamel) - transparent yellow, 10 ml

A modeling paint from the Tamiya enamel (synthetic, solvent-based) range in a bottle of 10 ml. The X range means a gloss finish. X-24 is a transparent yellow, a tinting clear coat which colors the base but does not cover it. Applied over a light or metallic base it creates a yellow translucency, while over a dark base it practically disappears.

What it is and what it is not

It IS a transparent tinting enamel for translucent parts and colored clear coats. It is NOT a covering yellow paint for large areas, and for a covering yellow you should reach for an ordinary opaque shade rather than for the Clear range. Take care not to confuse it: the manufacturer also makes an acrylic version of the same number X-24. This item is the ENAMEL, thinned with X-20 thinner (the enamel one, without the letter A), not with the acrylic X-20A. The two thinners are not interchangeable.

Use

• Position lights, beacons and rotating lights: tinting a translucent part yellow.
• Tinting clear parts: light covers, canopies, instrument glass.
• A yellowish cast on metal surfaces and polished metal (a brass tone).
• Candy finishes: layering transparent yellow over a gloss silver or gold base.
• Imitating aged, yellowed paint and old canopy glazing.

Thinning and application

Suitable for airbrush and brush. For spraying it is thinned with Tamiya X-20 thinner; the saturation of the shade is governed by the number of coats, so apply thin coats and let them dry, otherwise the translucency will darken unevenly. Enamel paints dry more slowly than acrylics, which helps a smooth flow. It looks best over a smooth, glossy base.

Who it is for

For modelers of aircraft, cars and military vehicles who need realistic lit lights, tinted clear parts or color effects on metal. Suitable for beginners too, as long as they expect a transparent rather than a covering paint.

A flammable liquid. It irritates the airways. Use in well ventilated spaces, protect your airways with suitable protection and avoid contact with the eyes and skin. Keep out of the reach of children and away from open flames.
