DSPIAE XPB-15 Dawning, tungsten steel scriber 1.5 mm

A tungsten steel scriber from the Dawning range, in the version 1.5 mm wide. This is a modeling tool, neither a kit nor a part for a model. The individual pieces of this range differ precisely in the width of the blade, which answers to the width of the groove it makes; this is the widest of the versions made.

What a width of 1.5 mm means

A millimeter and a half is a coarse gap that you will not use on ordinary panel lines. Its place is where the space between parts is part of the look of the real subject: the division of large covers, the gaps around armor plates and hatches on vehicles in large scales, or the gaps on diorama features where a joint between slabs is imitated.

Where a wide scriber pays off most

Besides scribing gaps it suits for making a groove into which a plastic profile, a strip or wire is glued. A wide groove holds the glued part in plane and there is no need to watch for it shifting sideways. In the same way an already existing shallow groove, which paint and varnish would flood, can be widened with it.

Use

• scribing coarse gaps on models in large scales
• imitating the space between plates and large covers
• cutting a wide groove for inlaying a profile, a strip or wire
• widening a shallow groove that would be lost under paint

Who the scriber is for

For modelers who build in large scales or rework and add to the surface of a model. In a set of scribers it is the extreme width, which you will put to use less often than the fine tips, but at the moment it is needed nothing else will take its place.

The blade is sharp and, for all the hardness of tungsten steel, brittle, so do not lever it sideways and always guide it away from the body. Store the scriber out of the reach of children and smooth the edges of a scribed gap with a fine abrasive before painting.
