A yellow ochre shade from Hataka's Orange Line, manufacturer code HTK-C259. The name refers to ochre, that is, to an earthy yellow with a cast toward brown of the kind that clay pigments have. The name also gives a number from the American Federal Standard, which is the surest way to compare a shade across brands: the first digit of the five-digit number states the degree of sheen, and a three in its place means a matte surface.
Thin it with the thinner intended for this line and in the ratio the manufacturer states on the packaging. A foreign thinner can curdle the paint or attack the coats beneath it. Stir the contents thoroughly before use; the pigment settles at the bottom during storage and unstirred paint has a different tone and different coverage. Apply in several thin coats instead of one heavy one; a thin coat preserves fine engraving and does not clog rivets or panel lines.
Earthy yellows are among the shades that cover poorly, because their pigment is light and low in saturation. A light base therefore pays off, and rather more thin coats than an attempt to hide the base in one go. The shade also changes markedly with the light in which you view the model, so judge the match with the original under the same lighting in which the model will be displayed. When you need the paint for a larger area, mix it up in advance and all at once.
The paint is supplied. Thinner, varnish and the model are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
